Largo, FL.  Southwest Florida Spartans CEO and Head Coach, Ben Mireles, has been invited to coach a team in the upcoming 2013 Miami Latin Showcase in Fort Lauderdale, FL.  He has been asked to coach Venezuela in the showcase.  This is an NBA combine normally conducted in Las Vegas during the NBA Summer League and this will be the first year being held in Florida.  The NBA combine is completed with drills, conducting individual filmed workouts, and coaching a team in the combine exhibitions.  With this being the first year in Florida for this combine, it will be for European and Latin countries to see players worldwide.  There will be an estimated sixty players attending this workout and each will be evaluated.
In 2011, there were 16 players who were signed to professional contracts and 21 players were signed in 2012.  “It’s an exciting opportunity for myself and my coaching staff to participate in an event that his normally held in Las Vegas,” said Coach Mireles.  “We look forward to coaching, scouting and even adding a few players to this list and offer them a chance to get overseas immediately prior to our training camp.”
In other news. the Southwest Florida Spartans announced an agreement with Hampton Inn to become a sponsor and team hotel for the upcoming season.  “This is a great hotel, terrific staff and we know that the visiting teams will be very pleased with the accommodations when they come to play us this season,” added Coach Mireles.  “It will be a relaxing and professional experience for any basketball fan and the visiting teams.”  For more information, visit or eamil or call 727 648 9796 or visit
