ATLANTA, GA, AUGUST 23, 2011: The Atlanta Aliens, a professional basketball team of the American Basketball Association (ABA) hires former pro basketball player, Michael Coleman as head coach. Coach Coleman will be formally introduced at a press conference to be held at the Atlanta Aliens Tryouts, on August 27, 2011 at the Highland Athletic Club, Atlanta, Ga. Along with being head coach of the Atlanta Aliens, he will also perform duties as the Director of Basketball Operations; overseeing daily operations of the team and other duties.
“I am very excited to be given this opportunity,” said Coach Coleman. “My primary goal for the Atlanta Aliens is to create and be a part of something special that others strive to emulate.”
Coach Coleman, originally from Inglewood, Calif., brings ten years of coaching experience to the Atlanta Aliens. As a player, Coach Coleman participated at the collegiate level at El Camino College and University of Hawaii-Hilo as a small forward/center in 1984-85. He also played professionally in the countries of Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, and Mexico. Coach Coleman was the player-coach for Paraguay’s Telephonica team in 1991-1993. He led his team to a record of 48-17 and advanced to the Tournament of Champions in both seasons. Coach Coleman is credited for creating MrcMental. MrcMental is a basketball program which teaches players the game from the mental perspective first and the physical skill factor second. It encompasses history, teaches respect for the game, and skill training.

The Atlanta Aliens basketball team is an expansion franchise with the American Basketball Association. They are based out of Duluth, Georgia (Gwinnett County). Their inaugural season will start with the 2011-2012 season. The Atlanta Aliens are a member of the Atlantic South Division of the Eastern Conference in the ABA. The team will play their home games at Forrest Fleming Arena located in Doraville, GA, on the border of Fulton County and Gwinnett County. Their season will run from November until April.
