Recently,Indiana Gov. Mitrch Daniels signed the “Heather’s Law” bill to fight dating violence in schools. Heather Norris was brutally murdered in 2007. Jackson, MS. The ABA Jackson Showboats expansion team that begins play in November welcomes former NFL wide receiver Brennan Marion to its staff as Director of Player Strength and Conditioning. Brennan, a Virginia native, will work directly with the players in weight-lifting, plyometic and overall physical conditioning. On the arrival of Brennan, team GM Grant Worsley said, “We are excited to have Brennen as part of the Showboat family. We look forward to his expertise in conditioning and strength science. His athletic skills and know-how will be a tremendous benefit to our organization.:”
Brennan, who relocated to Jackson from LA, earned a Division 1 scholarship to the University of Tulsa, where in 2007 he set an NCAA record for most yards per catch. After graduating in 2008 with a bachelor’s in sociology, he went on to sign in 2009 as a free agent with the Miami Dolphins. “I look forward to helping the community of Jackson and helping players get to the next level,” said Brennan. “I’m excited to be in Mississippi and start working with the Jackson Showboats.”

The American Basketball Association (ABA) www.abalive.com crowned a new champion on Sunday, April 15th at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL with a 100-91 win over the South Carolina Warriors. The Giants captured the first two games of the best-of-three series to win the 2011-2012 ABA Championship. Both games were close and the overall consensus of those attending was that these were the best two teams in the ABA.
“If anyone ever questioned the quality of ABA basketball, there questions were answered this week in St. Pete,” stated ABA President/COO Dick Packer. “From the first games with the North Dallas Vandals,
San Diego Sol as well as the Warriors and Giants, fans got to see some exciting, fast-paced basketball played by highly skilled players. Every game was exciting. And when you add the All Star players who competed on Saturday, you know that the quality of talent extends far beyond the Final Four teams. Our hats to off to all the players who competed – and of course to Ron Sholes, Kevin Waters, the Giants organization for winning the ABA Championship and also to the South Carolina Warriors for their runner-up effort.”

The Jacksonville Giants rose to the occasion in the best of three finals for the 2011-12 ABA Championship played on the campus of Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida with a sweep of the South Carolina Warriors two games to none to become the 2011-12 American Basketball Association Champions 100 – 91.
The game featured the two best teams from the ABA Eastern Conferences matching up once again and provided a similar script to their first contest in the series with South Carolina completing the first half of play with a six-point advantage 49-43. Jacksonville however limited the superb tournament play of the trio of Warrior guards John Roberson, Mike Vogler and Tony White Jr. to only 10 of those 49 points while the play of tournament leading scorer Marquise Gainous tallied 17 points along with reserves Brendon Knox and Jerome Richardson combining for 16. The opening game of the best of three finals for the 2011-12 ABA Championship concluded last evening on the campus of Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida with an overtime thrilling and extremely well-played game.
The Jacksonville Giants overcame the South Carolina Warriors for the first time this season in three meetings and captured Game 1 of the Best of Three Finals Series 106-101. The second round of ABA Championship Week continued last evening on the campus of Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida with two exciting games.
In last evenings action game 1 featured the San Diego Sol versus the North Dallas Vandals in the first elimination game of the Championships.
San Diego used a third quarter pressing attack that quickly overcame a 6-point halftime deficit and cruised to an 80-70 win.
San Diego featured a balanced scoring effort from Mitch Johnson, 16 points and John Clark with 15 points. Gray Gibson and Greg Clark chipped in with 12 and 10 points each.
The pressing defense of the Sol forced 33 North Dallas turnovers that resulted in an overall swing of 16-second half points in favor of the Sol.
North Dallas was led throughout by Will Haynes scoring a game high 18 points and Ty Thomas, who scored a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds and dished out 6 assists. Martel Jones also scored 16.
San Diego now advances to another elimination game to be played Thursday evening, tip off time scheduled at 7PM at Eckerd. -> Read more
