ABA AND VSSN TO HELP END AND PREVENT HOMELESSNESS AMONGST VETERANS

Indianapolis, IN.  The American Basketball Association (ABA) www.abalive.com has teamed up with Veterans Supplemental Support Network (VSSN), an affiliate  of Transitions 2 Success) to help end and prevent homelessness amongst America’s Heroes with the Warrior Basketball Tour.  These are a series of sponsored and organized exhibition games scheduled to hit the court starting in October 2012.  The games will feature ABA All Star teams vs. military teams with the 100% commitment of raising dollars to support VSSN’s Warrior Stay Program.  The Warrior Stay Program helps underwrite the costs of extended hotel stays (6 weeks to 6 months) for that service member who is ending service or any veterans and their family who have met a hardship. -> Read more

ABA ANNOUNCES LETTER OF INTENT TO ACQUIRE IEAH SALES CORP

Indianapolis, IN.  The American Basketball Association, Inc. (ABA)  (www.abalive.com)  today announced that it has entered into a Letter of Intent to acquire IEAH Sales Corp., a subsidiary of IEAH Stables, Inc. which has been created to segregate its pinhooking division.  IEAH Stables (IEAH) is engaged in all facets of thoroughbred racing with a proven track record of success.  IEAH purchased managing ownership of Big Brown in September of 2007, following the colt’s maiden victory.  Big Brown would then go on to win the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, Florida Derby and Haskell Invitational.  Following the Kentucky Derby, IEAH consummated a sale of Big Brown’s breeding rights to the prestigious Three Chimney’s farm at a valuation of more than 15 times his purchase price. Big Brown now commands a $35,000 stud fee and is poised to be one of the top thoroughbred stallions in both the Northern and Southern Hemisphere. -> Read more

SALEM SABRES ADDED TO ABA PAC/NW DIVISION

Indianapolis, IN.  The American Basketball Association (ABA) www.abalive.com today announced that the Salem Sabres from Salem, Oregon has been added to its Pacific/Northwest Division.  “We’ve had excellent growth in the division for next season,” stated Joe Newman, ABA CEO.  “And we’re pleased to add our first team in Oregon.  The Sabres will begin with an abbreviated schedule in their first season and will compete with the Seattle Mountaineers, Kitsap Admirals, Olympia Rise, Lakewood Panthers and Washington Raptors.” -> Read more

JACKSONVILLE CELEBRATES ABA CHAMPIONS WITH PARADE

Jacksonville, FL.  The City of Jacksonville, FL celebrated the Jacksonville Giants winning the ABA Championship with a downtown parade.  Mayor Alvin Brown presented Giants’ owner Ron Sholes with a proclamation declaring May 3rd as Jacksonville Giants ABA Champion Day.  “It means a lot to the City of Jacksonville,” stated Sholes.  “The parade was a success and we deeply appreciate the support that the city has provided to us.:”  -> Read more

ABA COACH PUBLISHES BOOK ON LEADERSHIP

Jacksonville, FL.  It’s not every day that an ABA coach has a book published – particularly an inspiring written piece that focuses on leadership and the value of winning as a team.  Donte Hill, Asst. Coach of the 2012 ABA National Champions Jacksonville Giants and CEO of King of the Court Leadership International, has taken his basketball and corporate experiences to a national audience through his recently-published book, “Contagious Leadership: 13 Principles to Spreading a Winning Culture.”  Hill explained that his book was developed to inspire and motivate people from “any arena” to become leaders and achieve goals. -> Read more

WABA INDY FINEST TO MEET CHICAGO LADY STEAM IN BENEFIT GAME

Indianapolis, IN.  Continuing the special season introducing the Women’s American Basketball Association (WABA)www.abalive.com, the Indy Drive will meet the Chicago Lady Steam this Saturday, May 5th in a Special Benefit Game for the Heather Norris Memorial Scholarship Fund at Petry Meridian HIgh School in Indianapolis (www.heathersvoice.net).  Recently,Indiana Gov. Mitrch Daniels signed the “Heather’s Law” bill to fight dating violence in schools.  Heather Norris was brutally murdered in 2007. Proceeds from the game will go to the fund and there will be a special ceremony to honor Heather. “The WABA has made it its mission to do good and to support worthy causes,” stated Tim Hicks, Director of the WABA.  “This cause hits very close to home and we’re proud to be able to help spread the word about Heather’s Law. And fans will also see some good basketball too.

GAINESVILLE HEAT ADDED TO ABA’S SOUTHEAST DIVISION

Indianapolis, IN.  The American Basketball Association (ABA) www.abalive.com today announced that it will add another team to its fast growing Southeast Division with a team in Gainesville, Georgia.  “Joshua Randolph is a local Gainesville business owner who graduated from Gainesville High School where he played varsity basketball,” stated Joe Newman, ABA CEO.  “His passion for the game runs deep having coached both at the AAU level and AAU level in the State of Georgia and is currently a pro hoops writer for the NBA.”

“I am very thankful for this opportunity to do something exciting for the Gainesville community and the State of Georgia,” added Randolph.  “The ABA will not be disappointed in our service to the community and our commitment to professionalism.  We are ready to roll.”

MEMPHIS REIGN SCHEDULES PRO AM DRILLZ & SKILLZ CAMP

Memphis, TN.  The ABA Memphis Bluff City Reign will be hosting a ProAm Drillz & Skillz Camp for free agent players and college completers on May 18-19, 2012 at their new training facility, Early Groves Chuirch, 557 Lester Street, Memphis TN.

“We will feature former University of Memphis Tigers stars and former pros as trainers,” said Reggi Golden, team owner.  “Among them will be Cedric Henderson, Rodnew Newsome, Rodney Douglas and others.”

Player registration is $65, regional teams and coaches welcomed to sit in and scout and make contact. Pre-register Sataff $50 up to three people ($20 for each additional).

JACKSON SHOWBOATS HIRE FORMER NFL WIDE RECEIVER

Jackson, MS.  The ABA Jackson Showboats expansion team that begins play in November welcomes former NFL wide receiver Brennan Marion to its staff as Director of Player Strength and Conditioning.  Brennan, a Virginia native, will work directly with the players in weight-lifting, plyometic and overall physical conditioning.  On the arrival of Brennan, team GM Grant Worsley said, “We are excited to have  Brennen as part of the Showboat family.  We look forward to his expertise in conditioning and strength science. His athletic skills and know-how will be a tremendous  benefit to our organization.:”

Brennan, who relocated to Jackson from LA, earned a Division 1 scholarship to the University of Tulsa, where in 2007 he set an NCAA record for most yards per catch.  After graduating in 2008 with a bachelor’s in sociology, he went on to sign in 2009 as a free agent with the Miami Dolphins.  “I look forward to helping the community of Jackson and helping players get to the next level,” said Brennan.  “I’m excited to be in Mississippi and start working with the Jackson Showboats.”

JACKSONVILLE GIANTS WIN 2011-2012 ABA CHAMPIONSHIP

Indianapolis, IN.   The American Basketball Association (ABA) www.abalive.com crowned a new champion on Sunday, April 15th at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL with a 100-91 win over the South Carolina Warriors.  The Giants captured the first two games of the best-of-three series to win the 2011-2012 ABA Championship.  Both games were close and the overall consensus of those attending was that these were the best two teams in the ABA.

“If anyone ever questioned the quality of ABA basketball, there questions were answered this week in St. Pete,” stated ABA President/COO Dick Packer.  “From the first games with the North Dallas Vandals,

San Diego Sol as well as the Warriors and Giants, fans got to see some exciting, fast-paced basketball played by highly skilled players.  Every game was exciting.  And when you add the All Star players who competed on Saturday, you know that the quality of talent extends far beyond the Final Four teams.  Our hats to off to all the players who competed – and of course to Ron Sholes, Kevin Waters, the Giants organization for winning the ABA Championship and also to the South Carolina Warriors for their runner-up effort.”

ABA Championship Week – Recap Day Six

Sunday, April 15 – St. Petersburg, Fl – Eckerd College

The Jacksonville Giants rose to the occasion in the best of three finals for the 2011-12 ABA Championship played on the campus of Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida with a sweep of the South Carolina Warriors two games to none to become the 2011-12 American Basketball Association Champions 100 – 91.

The game featured the two best teams from the ABA Eastern Conferences matching up once again and provided a similar script to their first contest in the series with South Carolina completing the first half of play with a six-point advantage 49-43. Jacksonville however limited the superb tournament play of the trio of Warrior guards John Roberson, Mike Vogler and Tony White Jr. to only 10 of those 49 points while the play of tournament leading scorer Marquise Gainous tallied 17 points along with reserves Brendon Knox and Jerome Richardson combining for 16. Friday, April 13 – St. Petersburg, Fl – Eckerd College ABA Championship Week – Recap Day Four

The opening game of the best of three finals for the 2011-12 ABA Championship concluded last evening on the campus of Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida with an overtime thrilling and extremely well-played game.

The Jacksonville Giants overcame the South Carolina Warriors for the first time this season in three meetings and captured Game 1 of the Best of Three Finals Series 106-101. Game 2 will be played Sunday, April 15th at McArthur Gymnasium on the campus of Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida. -> Read more

ABA Championship Week Recap Day Two

The second round of ABA Championship Week continued last evening on the campus of Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida with two exciting games.

In last evenings action game 1 featured the San Diego Sol versus the North Dallas Vandals in the first elimination game of the Championships.

San Diego used a third quarter pressing attack that quickly overcame a 6-point halftime deficit and cruised to an 80-70 win.

San Diego featured a balanced scoring effort from Mitch Johnson, 16 points and John Clark with 15 points. Gray Gibson and Greg Clark chipped in with 12 and 10 points each.

The pressing defense of the Sol forced 33 North Dallas turnovers that resulted in an overall swing of 16-second half points in favor of the Sol.

North Dallas was led throughout by Will Haynes scoring a game high 18 points and Ty Thomas, who scored a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds and dished out 6 assists. Martel Jones also scored 16.

San Diego now advances to another elimination game to be played Thursday evening, tip off time scheduled at 7PM at Eckerd. -> Read more
