WASHINGTON RAMPAGE TO PLAY BREAST CANCER BENEFIT GAME

Maryville, WA.  The ABA Washington Rampage will play a benefit game on behalf of Breast Cancer Awareness on Sunday, February 26th at 4pm at the Maryville  Boys and Girls Club.  The game will be co-sponsored by Denny’s Restaurant and Bob’s Restaurant. and is being organized with Teresa Bates, President of the Maryville Performing Arts Center.  Admission will be only $5 with proceeds going to Breast Cancer Awareness.  “The ABA is more than just a game,” stated Sgt.Martin, team owner, “and this is our way of giving back to the community.  We’ll be playing the Pro Sport Assassins and it will be a great game for a great cause. ABA READY TO DEVELOP TWO NEW DIVISIONS

Indianapolis, IN.  The American Basketball Association (ABA) www.abalive.com today announced that it is ready and eager to develop two new divisions for next season.  “Currently we have eight very strong divisions and our expansion already for next season is awesome,” stated Joe Newman, ABA CEO.  “However, there are a couple of sections of the country that are underdeveloped and we do want to add teams to help make travel easier.  For example, we have an excellent team in Aberdeen SD (Aberdeen Attack), but travel is difficult for them.  If we could add teams in South Dakota, Minnesota, North Dakota, Iowa and Nebraska, we could create a good division.  The same holds true for New England.  We have a strong team in New Haven CT (Connecticut Topballerz) which plays in the NE Division, but we would really like to add teams in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont and upstate New York.” -> Read more

ABA TO RETURN TO HOUSTON, TX NEXT SEASON

“Our Pacific Northwest Division has been a bit of a problem with development behind the rest of the country. SHIZOUKA GYMRATS VISIT JAPAN AND BRING SOME JOY

Indianapolis, IN.  On Saturday, October 29th the ABA Shizouka Gymrats visited Soma City, Japan to hold a basketball clinic for kids in a devastated area that was hit not only by a huge tsunami this year but was also affected by the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant within about 30 miles.  With the cooperation of the local basketball association in Fukushima, 50 kids from elementary to high school joined the clinic conducted by the Gymrats.

To start off the day, T.Okada shared a message from ABA CEO Joe Newman to encourage the kids to overcome the challenges they face.  In the clinic itself, coaches, players and staff of the Gmyrats focused on how to improve basketball skills and understanding of tactics as well as sharing their thoughts that wisdom they learn on the basketball court can be applied to live off the court.

Since March 11th, they have not had a lot of opportunities to play sports because buildings and grounds are still recovering from disaster and they also are not so welcomed to lay outside due to possible radiation.

CLARKSVILLE CAVALIERS SET TO BEGIN PLAY THIS SEASON

A THOUGHTFUL SENIOR PROJECT

Indianapolis, IN. Brady Davis, a senior at Greenwood High School in Greenwood, Indiana has made his Senior Project a fund-raising event for Kim Newman, who is suffering from pulmonary fibrosis and is raising money to help offset the costs of a  double lung transplant. “What a nice and thoughtful Senior Project,” stated Denny Newman, Kim’s husband.  “Our family really appreciates it.”

The event will be a special concert featuring contemporary Christian music will be held at the Greenwood Christian Church, 2045 Averett Road in Greenwood, IN on Friday, Nov 18 at 7pm. The public is invited. Admission for the concert will only be $2 and it will be an evening of fun.

Providing the entertainment will be Neil Patrick Hinders, Brady Davis, Armanda Swanson and Eric Rudack and others. Kim Newman is the daughter-in-law of ABA CEO Joe Newman.

This event is also provided as a thank you to all who showed such great and loving support. Denny and Kim Newman would like to personally thank all of those who helped make the fund raiser for Kim such a success on Saturday.

ABA LAS VEGAS ACES MOVE TO EATONVILLE, FLORIDA

Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) www.abalive.com today announced that it has approved the move of the Las Vegas Aces to Eatonville Florida. “Las Vegas is a great market, but so is the Orlando area,” stated Joe Newman, ABA CEO. “Todd Tripplett, the owner of the Aces and a member of the ABA for several years has business and family interests in the Orlando area and the commuting between the two cities has been difficult for Todd. Thus, we were happy to approve the transfer.”

Eatonville is the oldest incorporated black community in Orange County, Florida. ABA-CANADA ANNOUNCES NEW HEAD COACH

Toronto, Canada. Bill Crowdis, Director of ABA-Canada today announced that Ken Murray has been named Head Coach of the ABA-Canada Select team that will be participating in the upcoming season of the American Basketball Association (ABA) www.abalive.com.

Ken Murray was a standout player for the Brock University basketball team being named the team’s MVP in all five of his seasons. The four-time OUA all-star holds a number of BU basketball records including career scoring average, career rebounding average, career field goals made, single season scoring average and single season rebounding average.

Following his successful playing career, Murray spent time coaching at the University of Regina and Damien College before taking the reins as Head Coach for his alma mater. He was successful in leading the Badgers to their first ever Canadian University Championship in 1992, and repeating the feat once again in 2008. At 521 wins, he has the most victories of any coach in Brock University’s history, to go along with being named Canadian University Coach of the Year twice during his career.

Coach Murray states, “I have many great memories of playing and coaching at the university level, and I look forward to the challenge of coaching at the next level of basketball in the this country.”

ABA SYRACUSE SHOCKWAVE SEARCHES FOR A HEAD COACH

Syracuse, NY. The new ABA Syracuse ShockWave, scheduled to begin play in December, is conducting a search for their first head coach. “A combination of leadership experience and winning drive is the recipe for success,” said Charles Iavarone, team owner. “We are looking for a candidate with college or professional coaching experience; however, all applicants will be considered.”
