Indianapolis, IN.  The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that the Fort  Smith Firebirds are getting set to begin play this season.  “Jamar  Birdsong, the team Owner/President, has  been working all spring and summer  putting things in place, and we are very pleased that he is ready to go,” stated  ABA CEO Joe Newman.  “Jamar has been playing basketball since the age of  six in Fort Smith,
really loves the game, and he wants to give the youth of the community a  chance to see that they have a chance to further their career in basketball and  to give players a chance that have been overlooked in Fort Smith.”
“We are in a really tough division,” added Birdsong.  “There are many  perennial playoff teams coming out of the ABA’s Southwest Division, including  last year’s Runner Up team, the North Dallas Vandals.  But we know there is  great talent here in Arkansas and it is our goal to find the best available  talent to compete.  Even more than that, however, we want to give our fans  and sponsors something they can be proud of and support and we will do  everything we can to justify their confidence in us.”
Only 25 years old, Jamal and his wife have five children included two sets  of twins.  “I am going to work very hard to make my family proud also,”  commented Birdsong.  “Watch the Fort Smith Firebirds.”  For more  information, visit or call  Jamar Birdsong at 479 222 5559 or email or visit
